Mohan once met a swordsman Sohan who had had more than thirty sword fights without once being defeated. Mohan asked him where he had learned his skill. Sohan replied that he was entirely self-taught.
Mohan asked, “Then how come you are so successful?”
Sohan said, “As soon as the fight begins I get close enough to touch the tip of my enemy’s sword with my own. If he holds his sword stiffly I know I can win easily, but if he holds his sword in a flexible grip, I don’t take the risk of a fight. If I meet such a man I just run away and thus remain undefeated.”
