Flying with the power of happy thoughts!

On 17th March, 1994, two fifteen-year-old best friends promised each other that they would be friends for life! And even if they lost touch they would reunite again twenty years later i.e. on 17th March, 2104 in Hawaii!
They obviously didn’t bother to check the map to see where Hawaii was located and were oblivious of any logistics that might be involved to keep up that promise.
2014 looked conveniently far at that moment of time and this promise was made with the strong conviction that the good things in life were yet to happen and it was possible for us to achieve anything we wanted to when we grew up!
I was obviously one of the friends and today even after fifteen years we haven’t forgotten the promise…but now that we know exactly where Hawaii is on the world map…it’s not so simple to reach there! And by 2014 we’ll probably have seven tickets to pay for instead of two!
Suddenly, the date seems to be just round the corner and the thought of breaking the promise really makes me sad. I really hope we can make it…but then a doubt takes over my desire to do so.
Like everyone else at our age we’re caught neck deep in our routines–trying to keep up with the pace of our lives. Right now it’s very easy to go with the flow and forget things that matter but can’t be worked out. We forget what we wanted, keep working hard for other things, get tired and then one day again remind ourselves of where we started from and again keep going in circles.
And that’s why may be it’s important that we keep telling ourselves that unless we imagine and work towards targets…life will have no meaning!
Sometimes I wonder where my earnest thoughts have disappeared. Why is it so difficult now to believe that anything is possible?
I can make it happen so I should not give up! And this should apply to everything that I do in life.
Just like it’s possible for Peter Pan to fly with the power of his happy thoughts …I too wish that someday even I can Fly…to Hawaii!

That’s a touching story. You should start saving now. Let’s assume that it will cost you $5000 to do that. I don’t know how much plane fare will be, but that’s probably a general estimate. Your date is 61 months from now, which divides up into $82 a month. Dividing that by 4, that brings your total to less than $20 a week that you’d have to save to make that trip. Make it the first thing that you take out of each paycheck, and you’re set. I hope that you follow through on it. You’re 15 year old self is you in a more pure form, and it reflects your true desires.
Content doesn’t matter – - its the intent that matters. You are doing good in fact, the very thing that you remember is great! Video conference is still a means with a Hawii backdrop… think of that! Leverage some technology…
Dear Bhavna,
Time is a great factor. In its reference big things becomes small and small things turns into BIG.
In my childhood I had made my youger brother write (when he was very happy with me for something) to give me 50 Rs.(INR)when he will start earning. To me that sum appeared to be great at that point of time and I had thought I will earn a fat sum in future. Now after almost 20 years I am still keeping that peice of paper but now, had no intention to cash it.
Cheers
